Sport in Europe
The locker rooms in Europe are dark places; the concept of chaplaincy is hardly known and coaches hardly understand their potential to influence lives outside of the field of play. Together we have the opportunity to impact lives and communities in and through sport across the continent and to bring the light of the Gospel to the people of sport.
Many people are eager to learn about how to run good sports camps that make a difference. Players and coaches meet in study groups in homes hoping to get their hands on study material and opportunities for training and mentoring. And there are great opportunities for college athletes to make sport their mission as they continue to play, coach and share lives in and around sports teams across Europe.
God is raising up leaders in many countries in our region that are waiting to be trained and equipped to change their nation and we cannot imagine what God will do in and through FCA Europe as you come alongside us.
Who We Are
In partnership with different agencies, churches and individuals we envision, launch, build and develop ministry in and through sport in the European countries that have little or no sports ministry. From our base in northern Italy, we offer training opportunities including a two-month internship every summer combining International Sports Leadership Training with practical field experience throughout Europe. Locally we facilitate sports camps, KidsGames and weekly sports activities for children and young people of whom many cannot be a part of local sports clubs because of financial problems or because of their lack of discipline. Using Value-Integrated coaching (Ubabalo) we aim for holistic development of the player (body, mind, and spirit) and we are starting to generate interest from sports clubs and federations wanting also to invest in their players in this way. “In Sport” ministry is also a personal focus as a player/coach for a local handball team. Sports development, excellent training and training of coaches in sports that are less developed here provide another great access point into the sports community to bring the light of the Gospel into the the darkness of the locker rooms and sports fields of our continent.
